Hiking is a great way to explore the beautiful landscapes of the UAE, and what better way to enjoy it than with your furry friend by your side? Luckily, there are several pet-friendly hiking trails in the UAE that offer stunning views and plenty of opportunities for adventure
The Al’Ayn al Ghumur hike in Ras Al Khaimah is an easy 5 km hike with beautiful scenery, including wildflowers and greenery reminiscent. It’s a great family hike, with a mostly flat terrain and some small rocks.
The Wadi Munay Hike in Ras Al Khaimah is an easy 6 KM hike that offers beautiful views and is a great activity to do with your dog. It is recommended to download WikiLoc to avoid getting lost and to keep your dog on a leash at the beginning near the farm.
Most of the hike is a nice walk with mostly wadi walk on big rocks. It is advised to go early or later in the day due to the lack of shade. The hike is suitable for beginners and is a great spot for a BBQ after. The dam is now full of water.
Ain Al Sheria is a stunning 8 KM medium hike in Fujairah, with an elevation gain of 500 meters. The hike offers amazing views and a well-marked path.
However, the road leading to the location is tricky and requires a 4×4 vehicle. The hike has many goats, so it’s important to keep your dogs under control. It’s recommended to start the hike early in the morning or in the afternoon to avoid the sun’s heat.
At the top, you can see some cave paintings, but it’s important to be respectful and not touch them.
Hiking in Jebel Jais Ghaf summit, which is the highest peak in the UAE. The mountain is located in the Hajar mountains and has a trail named Ghaf Summit, which is a 4.3 km moderate difficulty hike with four viewing points.
The hike can be started from the viewing deck park or the Adventure Peak Welcome Center if you have a booking at 1484 by Puro.
There are also other attractions such as the longest zipline in the world and a restaurant at the top. The trail offers stunning views of the mountains and the sea, as well as opportunities to see groups of donkeys and goats.
It is important to consider the weather and bring proper equipment, such as shoes for dogs, water, snacks, and warm clothing. Jebel Jais is usually 10°C cooler than other popular landmarks in the UAE, making it a great spot for outdoor adventures with diverse scenery
Al Rabi Tower in Khor Fakkan is an Intermediate 4.5 KM Hike
There are two parking spots in this location, and GPS directs you to the parking down the hill. If you park there, you will start your hike with a pretty steep uphill climb.
Tip: If you go early enough (or maybe late enough), you can find parking next to the tower, saving you the trouble. The trail is well-marked, but there are different routes to reach the summit, with some easier than others. We always choose to go left to start the ascent.
You have a 300m elevation (more or less), so it’s going to be a good workout for sure! Take it easy and take lots of stops if necessary. If you think about giving up, the view is worth it, we promise!
When you reach the first flag, you already have amazing views of the beach, especially during sunset or sunrise. After the big ascent, you go down a bit, and here you have two choices – you can continue for one more summit or go back to the car. There are wild donkeys around this trail, so be careful of your dogs.
Wadi Sulfur in Fujairah is a great place to explore with an easy 4 KM hike. The trail includes some bouldering that is a lot of fun, but may be challenging for dogs with low confidence. You should take the time to help your dog overcome each boulder.
At the beginning of the hike, you’ll find many pools that are just gorgeous. The coloration of these pools comes from the sulfur in the area. Your dog can swim and drink from the pools without any issues, but if your dog has a sensitive stomach or skin, it’s best to avoid letting them go in the water.
After the pools, the bouldering starts, and it’s important to check your dog’s paws after each boulder. They can sometimes rip a nail in the process of jumping.
The trail is very well marked with stone towers and yellow arrows. There’s lots of tall vegetation in the wadi, so be sure to check for ticks after the hike
The 7 Summits Hike in Fujairah is an easy 2 km hike that is more like a walk in the mountains. The pet-friendly trail is well-marked, and you can explore each of the 7 forts.
Some parts of the trail are a bit steep, so take it easy. It’s a fun trail for not only dogs but also kids, and since it’s such a short distance, you can pair it with other activities in the area. We highly recommend checking out the nearby Al Hayl Castle.
You can park next to the Flag Park, but please be aware that dogs are not allowed in it, even if the grass looks awesome and they really want to go. Be aware of the rules and respect them.
The Modayna Dam hike in Ras Al Khaimah is an easy and accessible 6.5km hike. The trail starts in a farm area so it’s recommended to keep dogs on a leash for the first 2km.
The hike has only one elevation and is mostly flat with a beautiful scenario from mountains to wadi.
It’s a loop trail that ends at the car parking with the possibility of encountering free-roaming camels. Bring plenty of water and be cautious of the trail length, which may be underestimated. The trail is not marked, so it’s recommended to use WikiLoc to avoid getting lost.
