Up Close and Personal with Ginger’s Way

The names Mena and Ginger may sound familiar to all of you following us, they’ve shared their #adoptiontails and a lot of their adventures with us for all of you to try out and explore too. Now we’re getting up close and personal with them on their new venture – Ginger’s Way.

My name is Mena and I am a Conservation Biologist from Portugal, I swapped the birds and rehabilitation of wildlife to dog training and canine rehabilitation after finding Ginger on the side of the road.

Been living in Dubai for 4 years now and I really like it! Specially now that we are always exploring the UAE for the past 2 years our quality of life really improved.

How did Ginger`s way come to creation?

It was on my mind for a long time. I really wanted to eternalize Ginger and everything this dog did to me so what better way to create a brand that’s all about helping dogs and their parents.

With the right timing and opportunity, I found that now is the time to launch Ginger’s Way and I am very lucky with the dog community that follow us and believes in our way of training – which is now our full-time schedule.

What was the biggest challenge you faced in establishing Ginger`s way?

Starting a dog training company during the holidays. Everyone is out of Dubai for the holidays and the ones who are here are celebrating the holiday season.

Do you have any criteria of the dog you will train or the dog owner to ensure the quality of the training?

I work with any owner that is willing to put the work on their dog. If you are looking for someone to train the dog for you it’s not us. In terms of dogs, every dog can be trained. Sometimes we just need to readjust our goals for that dog, but every situation can have a bit of improvement. Even if sometimes it’s just teaching the owners how to manage the dog’s behavior in order for things to not get worse.

Are you running any group classes? And do you encourage dog owners to go for group classes or one-to-one?

Yes, I am! My group classes will start this month – January, and honestly, it’s one of my favorite things to do. Group classes are excellent but we need to make sure that your dog can cope with them and actually benefit. Group classes for a dog that is not ready, can do more damage than good.

So sometimes if I am not sure I always ask the owners to just to come for a 20 minutes assessment during a group class to make sure that the dog is going to be ok and will learn something in the duration of the class.

What are your top tips for dog owners when it comes to dog training?

Stop comparing your dog to other dogs, have fun while training your dog.

What’s a typical workday like for Ginger`s way?

That is the good thing about this job, there is no typical days! Some days I think they are going to be calm and then I get some surprises.

But I would say average, private sessions during the day and then later in the afternoon the group classes start.

Like any other pawrents – Mean was just like “YOU” 6 years ago. A clueless person who found a terrified dog on the road. A dog who wouldn’t even walk on the leash because she was so scared. She knows and understands that improving dogs confidence impacts the dog’s life and ours. Everything that she has learned and continue to learn is to improve Ginger’s life and make her a better dog mom.

We hope you got to know Mena and Ginger a bit more up close and personal through this blog and if you’d like to book or join her group classes or private sessions below are her details..
