Your Guide Into Dog Sneezing

Ahh-choo! What’s that? Did your dog just sneeze? Yup, they did. That means it is time we address your questions about dog sneezing.

Why is my dog sneezing?

There is not one, but quite a few reasons why your doggo sneezes. Let’s take a look at each of them below.

1. Play sneezes

Usually, when your pup is excitedly playing, they tend to let out a “play sneeze”. Sometimes the sneeze can just be due to excitement, while the other times, it can be to diffuse a stressful play situation with another pup.

Usually these sneezes are nothing to worry about, as your dog is having a good time, but stay aware of their overall body language.

2. Something stuck in their nose

If you notice your pup itching their nose using their paw, there may be something stuck in their nose, like a grain of food, or a piece of grass.

If you suspect something stuck in your dog’s nose, don’t act yourself. Contact your vet and let them take a look. They will safely remove whatever is stuck in your four-legged baby’s nose.

3. Allergies

Just like humans, dogs can experience allergies too. Allergic reactions can be to mold, pollen, dust, and foods. Exposure to such substances can cause sneezing and even coughing.

If your dog is sneezing due to an allergic reaction, you might notice other behaviors like paw licking, hair loss, butt scooting, scratching their nose with their paws, swelling on face, vomiting, etc.

You should take your doggo to the vet so they can make a proper diagnosis.

When should I be concerned about my dog sneezing?

Uncontrollable and excessive sneezing maybe an indication of a problem. Look out for any other symptoms like coughing, any discharge from eyes or nose, loss of appetite, etc.

Your dog might just be experiencing a common cold. You should contact your vet for medication.

How to prevent your dog from getting sick?

Here are a few tips to follow to prevent your dog from getting sick;

  • On-time vaccinations
  • Keep your dog warm during the winter season and even after baths or rain
  • Change the water in your dog’s bowl at least once a day
  • Disinfect your dog’s toys regularly

It’s heartbreaking to see your doggo go through a sneezing problem, or be sick. Remember, prevention is better than cure.
