Shelter for 600 Animals in Need of Urgent Support – Animals and Us

Michelle, from Animals and Us shelter, has recently posted a heartfelt plea on social media for support in the midst of their shelter license renewal process.

With over 600 animals currently in their care, a non-renewal of their license could mean that these animals will have no food or care, as Michelle’s savings and salary have already been depleted due to the lack of support.

Despite not being able to ask for support on social media during this time, Michelle continues to rescue animals off the streets and care for abandoned pets, including dogs, fish, and turtles. She has always been dedicated to rescuing and rehoming animals, having saved and found homes for many animals over the past 20 years.

More than 600 dogs

However, the last five weeks have been incredibly difficult for Michelle and the animals at Animal and Us shelter. They have received almost nothing from their Amazon wish list, leaving them with no food or supplies for the animals.

Michelle can only take care of 50 animals without outside help, but with 600 animals in their care, the situation is dire. Moreover, Animal and Us shelter currently has a vet bill pending for 27 cats, 21 dogs, 15 puppies, a turtle, and a fish.

Michelle is struggling both physically and mentally, but she refuses to give up on the animals. She never turns a blind eye to animals in need and is always ready to help them, even if it means going beyond what other organizations or shelters would do.

Michelle’s plea for support should not fall on deaf ears. We should all remember the animals that cry out for our help and do what we can to support shelters like Animal and Us.

Every donation, no matter how small, can make a difference in the lives of these animals. Let us come together and help Michelle and Animal and Us shelter in their time of need.

About Animals and Us

Animals and Us is a registered animal shelter based in Fujairah, which is home to more than 400 dogs and 90 cats.

The shelter is run by Michelle Mathanda, who also takes care of numerous dogs on the streets of Fujairah. Michelle, a full-time primary school teacher, carries out all rescue work on her own and runs the shelter around her job with a handful of volunteers.

Michelle’s hard work resulted in the establishment of the shelter, which was built up slowly and largely from her own funds. People who want to support her animal welfare efforts can sponsor the monthly care of an animal, sponsor vet bills, sponsor food, or provide foster homes.

In November 2021, Michelle was recognized by the Animalia Awards for her Outstanding Contribution to Animal Welfare Award

How can you help:

1- Help with Vet expenses:

Vet expenses are our biggest outgoing. From basic vaccinations to intensive, critical and often emergency treatment, every single one of the animals we rescue requires veterinary care. Often the animals we take in are sick or injured and bills can escalate fast. But not saving them is never an option

2- Support Shelter expenses:

As private tenants of the land the shelter sits on, we pay water and electricity just like everyone else! These bills put a huge pressure on us every single month.

Electricity allows us to provide coolers so that our animals don’t suffer through the summer heat. It allows us to power the shelter and work through the night, ensuring our workers can look after our animals 24 hours a day and keep them safe.

Our water and electricity bills soar in the summer months which can be crippling. You can support directly with the utilities company and help to provide these basic needs to our animals.

3- Buy Shelter Wishlist:

You can help the shelter by buying their wishlist on Amazon
