RAK Welfare Center Partners with Dubai Turtles to Save a Turtle

RAK Welfare Center recently rescued a beautiful turtle in Marjan Island, Ras Al Khaimah. The turtle was found floating on the surface of the beach with a missing flipper. The RAK Welfare Center quickly accepted the case, but since they are not experts in marine life, they reached out to Dubai Turtles for assistance.

The amazing team at Dubai Turtles came the same day and took the turtle under their care. While the turtle is missing a flipper, it can still swim and live a normal life. However, it will be under the supervision of the experts at Dubai Turtles. The RAK Welfare Center is proud to be the voice for the voiceless and care for all types of animals.

About Dubai Turtle

Dubai Turtles, a non-profit organization that has been rehabilitating rescued sea turtles since 2004, is located at Jumeirah Al Naseem. The center rescues, rehabilitates, and releases turtles, with an impressive record of rehabilitating 1,600 turtles since its inception.

The center can monitor released turtles’ progress, and many of them have been fitted with satellite transmitters.

One of the turtles, Dibba, was tagged and released in February 2008 and travelled an incredible 8,600 kilometers. She was the first example of a marine turtle migrating from the Middle East to South East Asia, with her last location recorded off the coast of Thailand. A young hawksbill released in summer 2019 reached Qatar, traveling 600 kilometers in three weeks.

About RAK Welfare Center

RAK-AWC

Established in 2010 by a group of volunteers, the RAK Welfare Center has quickly grown to be one of the premier providers of animal services in the UAE. The RAK Welfare Center and Dubai Turtles’ collaboration is a great example of the power of teamwork in animal welfare. With the RAK Welfare Center’s dedication to the welfare of animals and Dubai Turtles’ expertise in marine life, the turtle rescued in Marjan Island is in good hands.

The turtle will receive the best care possible and have the chance to return to its natural habitat once it has fully recovered.
