After 100 days of being lost, Monty the cat has finally been reunited with his owners, the Appleby family in Khalifa City.
The four-year-old rescue cat had gone missing along with two other cats after they were mistaken for strays and rounded up by pest controllers.
We have wrote the story of Pawrents of 3 – Blacky, Monty, and Winnie who has been desperately looking for their cat since October as they have suddenly been missing after the municipality has received a complaint from a neighbor wherein dusty paw prints where seen at a newly washed car
The online appeal by Jacqueline and David Appleby, which reached more than 1,000 people through their blog “the lost boys of Khalifa City”, resulted in a breakthrough when GPS tracking data provided by Abu Dhabi waste management contractor Tadweer was used to locate Monty.
It was a huge relief, I had forgotten how miserable I had become over losing him

After a woman from the search party recognized Monty from a photo shared on the blog, he was finally reunited with his owners.
“We had been communicating with Tadweer and they showed us GPS movements of the truck used on the morning that Monty disappeared,” said Ms Appleby.
“It stopped at the villa next door. That is when we assume Monty was picked up. He was driven 6km and dumped on a desert landscape area.
“He then covered 2.3km and walked towards an Emirati family who began feeding him in their garden.
“We found him exactly 100 days after he went missing
“It was a huge relief, I had forgotten how miserable I had become over losing him.”
Monty is now readjusting to his surroundings back home while the Applebys continue their search for their other missing cats, Blacky and Winnie.
The couple’s efforts have inspired David, a former soldier, to launch a new website to help track lost pets.
The website, Microchip.ae, will go live soon and be free to use for anyone looking for lost pets, including cats, dogs, or rabbits.
The Applebys hope their website will prevent others from experiencing the heartache they went through while searching for their lost cats.
“It looks like Winnie was collected from Falcon Hospital and dumped at the waste ground a 10-minute drive away”
