How Dubai Hotels are Becoming more Pet Friendly

With the increasing trend of pet ownership in Dubai, especially in recent times, pet friendly businesses are on the rise, including hotels.

While Dubai may not yet match the pet-friendly atmosphere of some European or North American destinations, there’s a noticeable shift towards accommodating pets in various establishments. PETWITHIT is actively participating in this movement, advocating for pet-friendly guidelines and influencing facilities to welcome pets with open arms.

Pet-Friendly Hotels in Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain:

Hotels in emirates like Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain are leading the way in pet-friendly accommodations. For instance, BM Beach Resort and Banan Beach in Ras Al Khaimah, and Umm Al Quwain Beach Hotel, Pearl Hotel, and Barracuda in Umm Al Quwain, offer beachfront access where dogs can enjoy swimming and leisurely stays.

These hotels cater to adventure-seeking pet owners, positioning themselves as ideal destinations for pet-friendly getaways and staycations.

Benefits of Pet-Friendly Hospitality:

Pet-friendly hotels experience several benefits, including increased bookings, longer guest stays, and enhanced exposure on social media. Pet owners often appreciate hotels that accommodate their furry friends, leading to positive word-of-mouth recommendations and repeat business.

Basic Policies and Procedures:

Pet-friendly hotels typically have specific guidelines and procedures in place to ensure a pleasant experience for both guests and their pets. These may include requirements for up-to-date vaccinations, responsible pet ownership, and designated areas within the hotel premises where pets are allowed.

  1. Pet must comply with local legislation requirements.
  2. The hotel allocates special rooms for pets of not less than two rooms and provides special services for them
  3. For everyone’s safety, must require proof of up-to-date vaccinations.
  4. Pet owners should consider the privacy of other guests.
  5. Hotels must define exactly where pets are allowed, eg restaurants, etc. This exclusion does not apply to guide or service pets.
  6. The guest is liable for the health, safety, and welfare of their pets at all times.
  7. Poop bags should always be in the pocket
  8. Pet first aid kit should be available at reception.
  9. Veterinary clinic services or veterinarian doctor services are available on call 24 hours a day.
  10. Pet’s vaccinations are up-to-date and he or she is free of fleas or ticks

Pet-Friendly Beach Hotels:

Some hotels offer direct access to pet-friendly beaches, allowing dogs to enjoy the sand and sea. Hotels with pet-friendly beach policies prioritize the safety and well-being of pets, providing amenities such as water bowls, clean-up bags, and first aid kits. Additionally, hotels enforce leash laws and encourage responsible pet ownership to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests.

In case the hotel has direct access to the beach and their polic allows dogs either to be at the beach or even allowed to swim, there are the basic policies that should be applied:

  • Pack Prepared:
    • A plastic reusable water bowl.
    • Clean-up bags and/or pooper scooper.
    • Water safety equipment, such as a life vest or preserver.
    • First aid kit.
    • Waterproof and/or antimicrobial leash and collar.
    • Floating pet toys.
  • Pick-Up after Your Pet:
    • Dog owners should pick up and dispose of all dog waste in appropriate receptacles. Use hotel access waste facilities or take dog waste with you for disposal. (Must have a plastic or paper container that can be used to clean up and contain dog waste until it can be disposed of in an appropriate container. This container must be produced and shown upon request)
  • Keep Your Pet Safe in the Heat:
    • Hot sand and pavement can be painful on your pet’s sensitive paws. Stay away from these hot spots or alternate between hot surfaces and cold surfaces.
    • Ensure your pet stays well hydrated! Bring extra water with you and a bowl for them to drink out of. Make sure it is available to them at all times!
    • Be careful not to over-exercise your pet! If you notice excessive panting, foaming at the mouth, or bright pink gums, ensure they lay down to rest and drink water immediately.
    • Make sure shade is made available! Whether it be a beach umbrella or underneath a shady tree, providing your pet with a place to cool off outside of the sunshine is very important.
  • Signage:
    • Pet-friendly beach signage should be clear and visible.
    • The signboard is securely affixed.
    • Arabic & English pets beach signage
  • Quick Rinse After a day at the beach rinse your pooch off with water at a convenient beachside shower to remove sand, salt, and small beach bugs. This will keep your pet comfortable and your hotel or beach house clean

Requirements for Pet Owners and Hotels:

Both pet owners and hotels have specific requirements to adhere to for a successful pet-friendly experience. Pet owners are typically required to provide proof of vaccinations and adhere to hotel policies regarding pet behavior and supervision. Hotels, on the other hand, must clearly communicate their pet-friendly policies to guests and provide necessary amenities to accommodate pets comfortably.

Pet-Friendly Hotel Features:

Pet-friendly hotels often offer additional amenities and services to enhance the guest experience. These may include pet beds, relief areas with disposal supplies, concierge services for pet-friendly recommendations, and welcome bags with treats. By providing these features, hotels cater to the needs of pet owners and create a welcoming environment for both guests and their pets.
