Fudgy’s Story: A Poll for Better Safety Measures in UAE Pet Care Facilities

Fudgy, the missing husky who captured the hearts of animal lovers all over the UAE, is still yet to be found. His owners have not given up hope, but they are also taking proactive steps to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

Fudgy, a rescue dog in Dubai, has been missing since February 26th after running away from his handler due to an unsecured collar. He’s white and tan with black and pink markings, microchipped, and desexed. There have been some sightings of him near First Al khail and al Manara, and the owners have set up a cage to try to lure him back.

They’ve increased the reward to AED 10,000 and organized daily search parties, distributed flyers, and contacted police and rescue groups. Despite their efforts, they have yet to receive any concrete leads on his whereabouts and urge anyone with information to come forward

Facebook Poll

In a Facebook post addressed to all furparents and animal rescuers in the UAE, Fudgy’s owners called for an audit of all grooming and daycare facilities in the country.

They highlighted the fact that many businesses do not have CCTV systems installed, which can lead to mistrust and mistreatment of pets. They also pointed out that lost pets can impact the environment and cause emotional damage to their owners.

To address these issues, Fudgy’s owners proposed that all businesses be required to install closed fence unloading/loading areas, CCTV and dashcam systems, and dedicated closed cage areas for loading and unloading pets. They also suggested that business owners either pay an annual fee for system operation or face shutdown.

The proposal aims to prevent illegal selling and false “ran off collar” incidents, as well as ensure that furparents can trust that their pets are in safe hands while they are away. Fudgy’s owners emphasized the importance of having a fully trusted business, whether it’s just for grooming or for playing with friends at daycare.

The Facebook post has garnered support from many animal lovers and advocates, who believe that these measures will not only ensure the safety of pets but also promote responsible pet ownership. The proposal is now being directed to the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and Dubai Police for further action.

As we continue to keep Fudgy in our thoughts and prayers, let us also do our part in advocating for the safety and well-being of all pets in the UAE.
