Everything You Need to Know about Dog Zoomies

Dogs often come home from being walked feeling excited.  It turns out, the dog zoomies are likely because they are bored or feel confined. Even after spending time walking with my dogs, I will come home and think that they are going to be exhausted. Instead, they go crazy on the couch.

WHAT ARE DOG ZOOMIES?

The zoomies happen when your doggos does not get his exploration in. They happen after a walk or when he is indoors for too long and has pent-up energy.

Every dog is unique, but many dogs tend to get the zoomies after a walk. This is because they still have pent-up energy and excitement from the walk.

HOW DOES YOUR DOG REACT TO AFTER BEING WASHED?

There’s an easy-ish answer to this dog question. After a bath, dogs get the zoomies because their coats are soaked, which means that the energy from rubbing against things is converted into electricity, exciting their nerve cells, and making them feel giddy.

Baths can be fun for dogs, but the majority of them don’t like the experience.

Too much bathing can end up in your dog developing stress. If you want to desensitize your dog, help it get used to baths over some time. But ultimately, even if you go through with the necessary steps, they may not enjoy baths.

So, after a bath ask your pup for “free time”! After a long period of giving no freedom, it feels good to be let loose! They should have been able to move freely some before the bath and it will just feel good to do so again.

RUNNING WITH MY DOG

Running drains your dog a lot and help them not to go crazy in the evening.

WHEN DO ZOOMIES START?

Puppies might start to feel bored, confused, and tired, so they will do what puppies are best at, running around.

Dogs may turn out destructive at night because they were bored, and as a result, they may feel the need to let their stress overflow at night.

With a few precautions, you can keep your puppy from destroying furniture.

HOW TO STOP THE DOG ZOOMIES

We should ask if we want to stop the zoomies before answering how to do so.

It’s understandable for our dog to sometimes need some alone time, but shouldn’t we get excited when our pups are happy and hyper? Exercise makes dogs more tired, relaxed, and chilled out.

There are scenarios where you may need to stop the zoomies. If your pet could get into a dangerous situation, there are people around who may not be able to handle the energy, or if your pet has an injury and is supposed to rest.

If your dog is running around, it’s best to get them to do something less intensive.

Placing a mat of treats at the feet of new pet dogs is a good example or you could give your pup a new chew toy in exchange for some of their favorite food or treats.

Directing a hyperactive dog to a slower-paced activity might help them calm down. They won’t always listen, but it might help.

Focusing on letting the dog zoom around is more helpful than stopping it, even though it might be a bit intense at first.
