Have you ever wondered about the significance of pet vaccination and registration and pet tags with the Dubai Municipality? Why is it necessary to obtain a “tag” for your furry companion? In this article, we aim to provide you with comprehensive guidance on these topics while acknowledging that the larger philosophical questions remain unresolved.
If you are a Dubai resident, this information is specifically for you.
Registering your pet with the Dubai Municipality serves an important purpose. In the unfortunate event that your pet goes missing but is subsequently found and brought to the Municipality’s Veterinary Section, their central database can help connect your pet’s tag ID number and microchip number to your contact details.
This facilitates a swift reunion between you and your beloved companion. Additionally, it ensures that unregistered pets are either rehomed or, in extreme cases, euthanized—highlighting the significance of registration.
To obtain an ID tag for your pet, you must adhere to specific prerequisites mandated by law. These include having a microchip and ensuring that your pet receives the rabies vaccination. Annual registration is mandatory, and it necessitates the renewal of vaccinations, such as Dhppi/L and Rabies for dogs, and Flu/Enteritis and Rabies for cats.
It’s crucial to note that the rabies vaccination must be up-to-date and not expired. To register your pet with the municipality, the rabies vaccine should have been administered within the last year and remain valid at the time of tag purchase.
When you go for vaccination and registration, certain requirements must be met. You’ll need to present your Emirates ID or a valid UAE visa stamped in your passport.
Furthermore, you must provide your pet’s vaccination card, confirming up-to-date annual vaccinations and the presence of a microchip. It’s important to reside in the Emirate of Dubai to proceed with registration.
The actual registration process is conducted through a government website called Smart Government. Your chosen clinic, such as DKCVET, will log in to this portal and register your pet.
The necessary information includes your full name, phone number, area of residence, email address, as well as your pet’s name, microchip number, date of birth, latest rabies vaccination date, sex, species, breed, color, and the updated Municipality Tag number.
Failure to register and vaccinate your pet, if detected by the government, will result in an initial warning, allowing you three days to complete the registration and vaccination process. Non-compliance may lead to fines imposed by the government. In the worst-case scenario, if your pet remains unregistered, it could be confiscated.
Remember, lost pets found without a tag may be seized by the municipality, and dog owners walking their dogs without a municipality tag may face fines (the specific amount is currently unknown).
It is highly recommended that your pet always wears the municipality tag, ideally attached to their collar or leash. However, if you have a cat that frequently loses its collar (and consequently the tag), it becomes more challenging to identify and trace them back to you if caught by an inspector or another individual.
Although the presence of a microchip can ultimately aid in their identification, it is still advisable to ensure your cat wears the tag for swift and hassle-free identification.
By understanding the importance of Dubai Municipality pet registration, vaccination requirements, and the significance of wearing the tag, you can ensure the safety and well-being of your furry friend while complying with local regulations.
