Dog eye discharge and eye boogers are normal and are very common. Although, sometimes it may be from allergies or irritation, or may depend on the breed as well.
Dogs have natural tears to keep their eyes moist, but they may produce extra tears at times in order to help with lubrication. If you see extra discharge, it may also be a cause for concern.
If your dog has eye discharge or any other strange symptom, take them to the vet. You should also make an appointment if your dog has redness around their eye or is squinting.
Some dog breeds with flat faces, like Pugs and Boxers, have a shorter nose length which causes more liquid from the eyes to leak out. Discharge from their eyes might be clear, but if they have other symptoms such as eye boogers or discharge that is yellow or green, a vet should be consulted.
Dogs with blocked tear ducts are more prone to getting water in their eyes. This can happen when the ducts that drain the tears from a dog’s eyes becomes blocked, and therefore they don’t have anywhere else to go.
You can minimize tear stains by constantly under the eye and keeping it dry.
You can clean the area around the eyes of your dog by using a natural eye cleaning product without alcohol.
