Animals are not just meant for company. They also help people with emotional trauma by providing physical and emotional support.
With the joint collaboration of Dubai Foundation for Women and Children and Dubai Police’s K-9 unit. Animal therapy is the new method that they added for survivors of critical cases who present symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, or depression will be given priority.
“This unique therapy program can complement or even replace the traditional psychotherapy sessions,” said Sheikha Al Mansouri, acting director-general of Dubai Foundation for Women and Children.”
In addition to standard therapy programs, those who are under the foundation’s care can participate in animal therapy that will include dogs, horses, rabbits, birds, and even fishes.
There are many success stories of animal-assisted therapy or animal companionship leading to an improvement in mental health symptoms like anxiety, depression, PTSD symptoms among others.
