As we continue the series of adoption success stories to encourage everyone who is looking for a furever buddy to adopt. Today we highlight the adoption story of Ginger.
My name is Mena and my dog’s name is Ginger. She is a Portuguese Podengo cross and we both come from Portugal.
There was a time when I was looking for a pet, but I didn’t want a dog. I had 3 jobs and was out of the house from 8 am to 2 am most days. But one day, on the way to a field day we saw on the road what looked like a baby fox and we stopped the car.
I was working on a rehabilitation center for wildlife so we wanted to catch the baby fox and bring it to the center to check if everything was alright and then release it when it was older and strong – the baby fox turned out to be a dog. She spent the rest of the day with us on the field, mapping bird nests.
Her first meal was sardines (that now I know she is allergic to ) and when she licked my cup with beer I know she was my dog.
What changed in my life? God everything, I became a dog trainer because of her. She was a super scared dog on the lead, so I changed my conservation biologist master to dog training to help her.
It was just a hobby at first, we did agility together and we learned a lot together. After one year of finishing the course, the opportunity of coming to Dubai as a full-time dog trainer came and we both jumped to this adventure.
I am now in Dubai helping dog owners and their dogs because 6 years ago I stopped the car to save what I thought was a baby fox, but in turn, was a scared little dog.
Last year I made a promise to have more adventures with her and our quality of life totally changed. We go on adventures every week and I make sure that this happens. I know the UAE now thanks to her, she makes me want to leave the pool parties.
