Building on its commitment to animal welfare, Abu Dhabi has taken another significant step forward with the launch of the Community Cat Care Program (CCCP). This initiative, in collaboration with Provis, aims to humanely manage the stray cat population while fostering pet-friendly communities.
The CCCP has been introduced across four gated communities—Raha Gardens, Rayyana, Mamsha, and Mayan—and follows internationally recognized best practices, including controlled feeding, Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Microchip-Return (TNVMR), and ongoing community involvement.
This program aligns closely with the broader Animal Welfare Abu Dhabi (AWAD) initiative, which was recently backed by the UAE government. AWAD has been working under the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) to enhance rescue efforts, strengthen sterilization programs, and promote responsible pet ownership. With this new CCCP initiative, the government and its partners are taking proactive steps to create a sustainable and compassionate approach to animal welfare.
Stray cats have long been a part of urban landscapes in the UAE, often struggling to survive due to lack of food, medical care, and shelter. The CCCP introduces a structured solution to this challenge by ensuring community cats receive proper care while naturally reducing their numbers over time.
Through TNVMR programs, stray cats will be humanely trapped, vaccinated, microchipped, and returned to their original locations, where they can live safely without contributing to overpopulation. Controlled feeding stations will also be set up, ensuring that these cats receive regular food without creating nuisances in residential areas.
Beyond direct care, the CCCP is encouraging residents to take an active role in maintaining the well-being of community cats. By fostering a sense of shared responsibility, the initiative aims to create an environment where both humans and animals can coexist harmoniously.
With the UAE government’s continued support for AWAD and the introduction of the CCCP, Abu Dhabi is positioning itself as a leader in humane animal welfare policies. The initiative complements existing efforts such as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) for stray dogs, enhanced adoption programs, and stricter animal welfare regulations.
The CCCP also reflects a shift toward sustainability and ethical animal management, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s commitment to responsible urban planning. By partnering with organizations like Provis, the government is ensuring that community-driven programs play a key role in improving animal welfare standards.
The launch of the Community Cat Care Program is a positive step toward creating a pet-friendly and animal-conscious society. It highlights the power of collaboration between government entities, private organizations, and local residents in making Abu Dhabi a place where every life—human and animal—is valued.
As the CCCP unfolds, it serves as a model for other communities looking to implement sustainable and humane solutions for stray animal management. With the continued efforts of AWAD, Provis, and the UAE government, the future looks promising for both stray cats and the people who care for them.
