Abu Dhabi Authorities Launch Investigations into Abandoned Cats Incident
In a commendable response to the recent heart-wrenching discovery of over 100 abandoned cats and kittens in the Abu Dhabi desert, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has swiftly initiated investigations into the incident. This move comes after the DMT received reports of the distressing situation and underscores their commitment to addressing this act of cruelty.
The cats were found in the Al Falah area, close to Abu Dhabi’s Falcon Hospital. Shocking video footage shared by animal rescuers depicted a tragic scene with numerous cats lying lifeless or buried in the sand. This gruesome revelation highlights the urgency of finding those responsible for such a heartless act.
Rescuers have been working tirelessly to save the surviving cats, who were found in dire conditions. The animals, although weakened, have not lost their will to live, and these dedicated individuals have been racing against time to find them temporary homes and provide them with the care and compassion they desperately need.
What adds to the heartbreak is that almost all of these cats had been microchipped and neutered through TNR (trap, neuter, release) programs, designed to humanely control the population of stray cats.
One of the rescuers who rushed to the scene described it as nothing short of a “massacre.” She shared the grim reality, stating, “We couldn’t save all the cats because many were already dead or collapsing in front of us. The other cats were too weak, and we had to lift them up to our carriers. They were very dehydrated and left to die in the desert.”
While rescuers continue their valiant efforts, there are still many cats in need of help in the vast desert area. The public has been urged to assist by providing water and food to these helpless animals.
The DMT, responsible for managing such incidents, immediately launched investigations to identify the reasons behind this tragic event. The DMT aims to take all relevant administrative and legal measures to hold those responsible accountable for this inhumane act.
