A Heartbreaking Situation: More Than 100 Cats Found Dumped in Abu Dhabi Desert

In a shocking and heartbreaking discovery, animal rescuers in the Abu Dhabi desert have come across an unimaginable scene. Over 100 cats and kittens, many of them lifeless, were found abandoned in the Al Falah area, close to the emirate’s Falcon Hospital. The felines were left to fend for themselves in this unforgiving environment as per Al Arabiya News

Video footage shared by the rescuers revealed scores of cats lying lifeless or buried in the sand, a tragic testament to the cruelty of those who callously abandoned them.

The surviving cats, although in dire conditions, have not lost their will to live. Rescuers, working tirelessly through the night, are racing against time to find them temporary homes and provide them with the care and compassion they so desperately need.

What adds to the heartbreak is that almost all of these cats had been microchipped and neutered through TNR (trap, neuter, release) programs, which are designed to help control the population of stray cats humanely.

One of the rescuers who rushed to the scene, described it as nothing short of a “massacre.” She recounted the terrible situation, saying, “Some rescuers, including those from Dubai, have gone to help out. We couldn’t save all the cats because many were already dead or were collapsing in front of us. The other cats were too weak and we had to lift them up to our carriers. They were very dehydrated and left to die in the desert.”

The scale of this tragedy is staggering, and it is difficult to comprehend how such a heartless act could have occurred. Rescuers suspect that pest controllers may have been responsible for relocating the cats, leading to this horrifying outcome.

Tadweer, the government department responsible for pest control, typically works with contractors to manage stray cats. These cats are usually taken to Falcon Hospital, where they are assessed for health, neutered, and, if found healthy, returned to their original community.

Rescuer

Despite the rescuers’ valiant efforts, there are still many cats in need of help in the vast desert area. she has urged anyone passing through to bring water and food for these helpless animals.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the dire consequences of abandoning animals. It also underscores the vital role that animal rescuers play in the face of such heartbreaking situations.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the rescuers who have shown immense compassion and dedication during this challenging rescue operation. Their tireless efforts to save these innocent lives are nothing short of heroic.

As the Abu Dhabi community rallies together to support these cats, let us remember the significance of responsible pet ownership and the value of every life, whether human or feline.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the rescuers and the cats they are working tirelessly to save.
