How to trim dog nails

The most important key to trimming your dog nails is to have the right tool.

Nail cutting is a little different depending on whether your dog’s nails are white or black. Cutting white nails are easier as you can see the pink inside (the quick) much better. Remember be careful as you do NOT want to cut the vein that can result in bleeding. However, if you accidentally do cut too far, you’ll can use home remedies like:

  • Kwik Stop Powder (this is preferable)
  • Baking Powder

Cutting dog white nails

  • First find the hook on a white nail and trim right off the hook (not all dog nails have a hook)
  • IF the hook is not seen, Identify the quick (pink), barely push in front of it, and then trim from there

Cutting dog black nails

  • Brush that hair up, if your dog has hair around paw pads
  • Push on the back and grip by putting a finger on your dog’s pad
  • Take very small sections of the nail at a time and trim
