Remembering LEO: The Cat Mascot of Ras Al Khaimah
In Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority’s latest brand campaign, “All About You,” a special cat stole the spotlight as the face of the Emirate’s #PurrrfectVacation. This charismatic cat, inspired by the memory of a real-life rescue cat named LEO, captured hearts as the digital ambassador for the serene landscapes and exciting adventures Ras Al Khaimah has to offer.
LEO’s journey began in 2013 when he was abandoned outside an apartment building by his previous owners. Left to brave the scorching summer heat alone, he survived for weeks until kind-hearted individuals rescued him.
Despite his tough start, LEO’s resilient spirit shone through, and when his future owner crossed paths with him at the RAK Animal Welfare Center, it was love at first sight.
Selected as the mascot for Ras Al Khaimah’s tourism campaign, LEO’s unique appearance—a lion’s mane and a lion-hearted personality—made him the perfect choice.
His beach-loving lifestyle and adventurous spirit were a natural fit for showcasing the Emirate’s outdoor escapades. Over the years, LEO gained recognition on social media platforms, earning features on Instagram pages like @beautifuldestinations and @cats_of_instagram.
Known for his quirky habits, LEO had a love for water that knew no bounds. From drinking from every available source to enjoying walks on the beach, he brought joy and laughter to those around him. Despite being a rescue cat, LEO preferred the comforts of home but enjoyed exploring the neighborhood and basking in the sea breeze.
In the campaign, LEO’s animated character embarked on adventures across Ras Al Khaimah, highlighting its stunning beaches, majestic mountains, and captivating sunsets. Though LEO is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through the charming animations that capture his essence.
Reflecting on LEO’s typical day, we remember him as a contented cat who cherished outdoor excursions, afternoon naps, and quality time with his family. With his larger-than-life personality and unwavering cattitude, LEO earned the title of “the Meowfia Boss” in his household—a fitting tribute to his indomitable spirit.
